World Water Day 2025

The 2025 theme is Glacial Preservation

BACKGROUND
World Water Day, observed on 22 March every year since 1993, is an annual United Nations Observance focusing on the importance of freshwater. World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water. It is about taking action to tackle the global water crisis.
THEME
In 2025, the theme is Glacier Preservation. Glaciers are melting rapidly, disrupting water flows and affecting millions through floods, droughts, and rising sea levels. Mitigating climate change and adapting to the loss of glaciers is essential to protect communities and ecosystems. World Water Day 2025 focuses on glacier preservation, emphasizing the need for global action to manage meltwater sustainably and reduce emissions, securing vital water resources for the future. SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
A core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6: water and sanitation for all by 2030.

“We see the reality around the world.
We judge what we are able to do together.
We act with generosity.”
