8 February, is International Day of Prayer and Awareness Against Human Trafficking and the Feast of St. Josephine Bakhita. As a young child, Josephine was kidnapped from southern Sudan and sold into slavery and brought to Italy. When she was released from captivity, she joined the Canossian Daughters of Charity. Josephine was canonized in 2000 and is the patron of victims of human trafficking. |
