Sisters Honourine, Fides and Yvette at the Inaugural Mass
The Holy Union Sisters in the Generalate in Rome have been grateful to participate in recent events in the Church of Rome. Sisters Yvette Sam and Fides Kimario were part of the large crowd in St. Peter’s Square on May 18 for Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural mass. Sister Honourine, a Daughter of the Holy Family of Bafoussam, Cameroon joined them. She and Sister Fides from Tanzania have joined the Generalate Community while participating in a six-month course to prepare formators for their congregations. Other sisters in the Generalate Community followed the Inaugural Mass online.
Sister Yvette shares her reflections on the liturgy:
We prayed for all our sisters and carried each of you with us during the eucharistic celebration. Pope Leo thanked everyone for their prayers during the Conclave. He spoke with humility and honesty. “… I come to you as a brother, who desires to be the servant of your faith and your joy, walking with you on the path of God’s love, for God wants us all to be united in one family.”
Pope Leo’s homily centred on unity: Love and unity: these are the two dimensions of the mission entrusted to Peter by Jesus.” I felt that he was talking directly to us, reminding us of our charism of union which is so needed in our world of today. He encouraged us to be a small leaven of unity, communion and fraternity in our broken world where there are “… too many wounds caused by hatred, violence, prejudice, the fear of difference and an economic paradigm that exploits the Earth’s resources and marginalizes the poorest.”
