In 2010 the General Council of the Holy Union Sisters moved from the Monte Verde Vecchio area of Rome to Corso Trieste. For fourteen years the sisters rented half of the building from the Columban Fathers. The sisters had ample living and meeting space as well as an office for the General Council Secretary and the Congregation Archives. Last year the Columban Fathers informed the previous General Council that they would be selling the property. So in addition to preparing for the General Chapter, the Council had to begin a search for a new location for the next General Council. Finding space for their residence as well as for their secretary and a place where they could welcome Holy Union Sisters who came to Rome for congregation work was not easy. This year the General Council learned that the Good Shepherd Sisters had a house in the Trastevere area that they wanted to rent. Negotiations began, and all the details were finalized.
Superior General Sister Caroline Njah had served on the previous Council. Councilors Sisters Annemarie Egan, Yvette Sam and Michele Totman came to Rome in October. So, in addition to beginning their leadership ministry, all four sisters began to pack. The Congregation Secretary, Loredana Cardini, who had been part of the move in 2010, offered her skills to organize and pack all the files and material the Council need for their work. In early April the General Council were able to take up residence in their new home. In their most recent letter to the Congregation, the General Council noted that Via Nicola Fabrizi “is beginning to look and feel more like home. There is a lovely park nearby and churches within a short walk from the house.”
