From 29 May to 5 September, Catholic Sisters in the United States chose a day to participate in 100 Days of Prayer, Fasting and Advocacy. Holy Union Sisters chose August 6, the Feast of the Transfiguration and the eightieth anniversary of the U.S. bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to pray, fast and advocate to promote greater justice in their country.
Advocacy
Sisters mailed postcards with this message to their elected officials in the U.S. Congress:
Dear
The Holy Union Sisters are participating in the 100 Days Initiative of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. We are mindful of the critical financial and health crisis of our most vulnerable brothers and sisters and of our nation at this time and are grateful for your ongoing efforts to support the health and wellbeing of all Americans. We encourage you to continue to work for bipartisan legislation in support of the common good.
Be assured of our continued prayers and support.
Sincerely,
Prayer
With the 2023 Collegial Assembly Vision Statement and articles from the Holy Union Constitutions as resources, the prayer began with these words:
As the world was transfigured by death and destruction on August 6, 1945, so it will be transfigured by the coming to fulness of the Kingdom of God, as Jesus' transfiguration promised us.
Fasting
On August 6, each sister was invited to fast in a way that was meaningful to her.
Below are photos of sisters writing to the elected officials. Sister Laurette DeChamplain who will celebrate her 103rd birthday in September participated.
